Past

Over a thousand years ago, the human kingdom of Adrealia decided to banish all things supernatural from their lands. They did this by setting up patrols along their borders, but not everyone agreed with this method. Some believed that the only way to ensure that Adrealia didn't fall victim to the supernatural like other human kingdoms before them was to go out and kill every single supernatural being that walked it. This group of extremist were unable to convince the rest of Adrealia that their methods were the only way and eventually left the kingdom in order to save their people.

They--like those that remained in Adrealia--came to realized that some of their people possessed special abilities that proved useful against the things that they hunted. Refusing to allow these talents to go to waste, they created their own order of hunters. Through, there were great difference between their order and the one that emerged from Adrealia. One of these difference were how they viewed these hunters. The extremist viewed their hunters as nothing more than weapons, and that is exactly how they were treated. They had no rights--not even the same rights that the hunters of Adrealia possessed.

They were discarded if they proved themselves to be obsolete, and the extremist sought ways to improve their weapons effectiveness against the supernatural. They found their way into other worlds where science had more influence than magic. In fact, many of these words magic was nothing more than an idea found in story books. They set up labs upon these words where they forced not only their hunters but countless others to undergo horrific experiments. They found that most humans had supernatural powers locked away inside of them, and all they had to do was coax it to the surface.

They also discovered that some responded to the experiments better than others, but they considered this detail unimportant compared to the fact that conducting these experiments help increased the numbers of hunters they had. The hunters, on the other hand, didn't dismiss this detail. Some of them begun to see this as proof of their superiority not just to their fellow men but to every other species out there. They decided that this meant they were suppose to rule over the supernatural of their home world and not kill them. The extremist not liking their hunters taking these views tried to crush them before anything could come from it, but they only succeeded in ensuring that the hunters secured their position at the top of the organization faster than they would have if the extremist haven't decided to intervene.

In a few short weeks, the so-called weapons became the masters while those who had once been the master now found themselves as nothing more than products for their new masters personal enjoyment and use. Their lives held no value expect for what their master gave it, and that value could change at their master's whim. The hunters kept with the experiments. They found that it was a good way of separating the elites from everyone else. Those that responded extremely well to the experiments were allowed to receive the Vir, or living tattoo.

The Vir is a type of magic that is bond to a person's soul or essence, and will literally consume an individual if they are unable to control it. So, these experiments they are forced to endure not only separate the elite from everyone else, but also help ensure that no one gets their souls consumed. Every Vir possesses a natural ability to repel magical attacks. It is also known to be extremely effective against other forms of attack that might not be considered magical such as telepathy, telekinesis ect. While the Vir share some universal qualities each one is as unique as the person wearing it. Some individuals posses better control of their Vir and can literally make it do anything while others can only persuade it to perform the tasks that is originally installed into it.

Naturally those who can manipulate the Vir to do whatever they wish are considered the highest members of the organization. They are the leaders. They are the ones that will rule Asmiara when they successfully force everyone else to submit to their will. This, however, will prove to be quite a difficult task that they still haven't completed, and the organization has become a country during this time. It is a land where family holds absolutely no value. Many of the civilians have absolutely no idea whom their biological family are, and for those that do the information grants them no sense of loyalty to these family members. Iejiel was born within this country. Like countless others, his parents were brought together for the sole purpose of having him. It was decided by the head of the state that their combined genes would result in a desirable specimen.

His mother wasn't the only female that his father impregnate at the time. The head of the state bred his father with several females in hope that any children born from this union would be the perfect specimen. Aside from wishing to rule the world, Iejiel people wished to create the perfect race not only through experiments but through breeding. Couples were carefully selected in order to decrease the chance of an inferior offspring from being born. Through, children born outside these matches weren't killed. They received the same training and undergo the same experiments as the children born from such union. Iejiel's people don't waste resources. However, even if they prove themselves capable of wielding the Vir they are still consider inferior.

Like all members of their society, Iejiel was taken away from his mother's care at two years old and brought into a group home to be raised. He heard that his mother disgraced herself during the entire event by trying to sneak out of the country with Iejiel. She had done the forbidden by allowing herself to form a motherly bond with her son. Worse yet, she did nothing to prevent him from forming a bond with her. She was only suppose to provide him with the basic necessity. It was a failure that got her exile from the lands. Through, some called for her death, but it was decided that there was some poetic justice in giving her exactly what she wanted--in a manner of speaking. Iejiel was young enough that his reprogramming wasn't that difficult to achieve.

These group homes are not only a child's home for the next fourteen years of life. It is their school. It is a place where they learn reading, writing, arithmetic, and fighting skills just to name a few. It is also the place where they undergo horrific experiments. These experiments not only serve to help improve them as an individual, but help desensitize them to pain. That way if they find themselves captured by the enemy they will not be able to use torture to extract information from them. When Iejiel turned sixteen years old he underwent the experiment to see if he was worthy of receiving the Vir, and he was.

Once he was inked, Iejiel was moved from the group home into the compound for those that had the Vir. Here he was taught about the Vir, and learned that he possessed the ability to manipulate the vir to do whatever he wanted. His imagination is literally his limit. He became greatly interested in the society outside his own. He believed that the only way to convince the other people upon Asmiara to bend to their will is to have complete and utter understanding of them. He first learned everything he could about them from books before going out to gather information directly from the source.

He told his people to make contact with various members of these societies and make 'friends' with them. He also authorizes the abduction of specific specimen from these various society for their own experiments. Through, he doesn't subject many of them to the same horrific experiments that he had endured. Instead, he just sweep their genetic code in order to input into those that are undergoing the experiments. Unlike, most that receive the Vir Iejiel does not cease to be a test subject. In fact, he insist upon it. He believes that if he is unwilling to have these experiments conducted upon himself then he is unworthy of holding a position of leadership among his people.

Present

Allowing to have experiments to be conducted upon him wasn't the only way that Iejiel lead by example. He went out to 'befriend' members of the various species that found their way upon his home world, but he didn't expect himself to actual fall for one of them. Her name is Everleigh Paxton, and he's drawn to her in ways he have never been drawn to another individual before. He finds everything about her captivating. He wants to discoverer the mystery that is her, and learn everything there is to know about her not for his people benefit, but for his own selfish gain.

He knows that it is wrong. He knows that he should end things with her, and never seek her out again after they depart from each other those countless times. However, he finds himself unable to stay away from her. He doesn't understand the feelings he has for her. Is it love? He just know that he will die to keep her safe, and the idea of her being hurt brings him unspeakable misery as well as a desire to harm those that hurt her. He also fears that if she learns the truth of what he is that will lose her, because she will be unable to forgive him for the things he had done.

It appears that he had nothing to worry about, because his Everleigh was a very forgiving person. It, also, seems that his love for her was greater than he every thought possible. He joined his father in a coup to throw the currant government, and declared himself king when everything was said and done. This went against his father's plan, whom had thought to seize such power for himself, and Iejiel expected his father to be angry. However, instead of being angry his father was amused--if not somewhat proud of Iejiel. His father has taken the role of advisor to Iejiel, and only time will tell whether or not he will approve of the changes Iejiel will make upon their society--which there will be many, and it is because of his witch and her influences upon him that he wishes to make these changes.
